Phased Library Re-Openings - Updated 01/07/2020

  • Posted On: 1 July 2020

Despite all of our libraries being closed over the past few months, we've been busy ensuring we are ready to reopen when the time comes.

Our phased re-opening is now able to begin from Monday as all risk assessments and necessary precautions have been put in place to safeguard both staff and library users.

From Monday the 6th July Richmond Library only will be reopening, with restricted opening times and only able to offer a 'Select and Collect' service. Please find details of these changes below. Currently, both Catterick and Colburn libraries will remain closed.

For the first 2 weeks of opening, Richmond library will be operating on a 'Select and Collect' basis only; there will be no browsing or computer access at this time. Users will be able to call or email us stating the type of books they like and from there, our staff members will select a variety of books and arrange collection from the library entrance with the user. All books will be available to borrow for 3 weeks. This service will continue once libraries reopen for limited browsing too. For further information about this service please take a look at this information from NYCC.

Additionally, users can also utilise the new 'library takeaway' service which offers specially selected book bundles to borrow. There will be a menu to choose from each week with something for all ages. People will be able to return books, but for now, library buildings will not be open for any other services. Books will be quarantined when they are returned for 72 hours.

Richmond library has been confirmed as COVID secure and all government guidelines will be strictly adhered to so customers can be assured that their safety will be our utmost priority.

From Monday the 20th of July we will then enter the next phase of reopening at Richmond Library. Select and Collect will still be available, as will the Library Takeaway Service. However, we will also be able to offer 2 computers for use in 45-minute sessions which must be pre-booked.

From Monday the 27th of July we will then enter into our third phase of re-opening. This is subject to change but we plan to offer public browsing in very limited numbers alongside the services we have already mentioned.

We will be posting all updates regarding opening times here, but please contact us if you have any questions.
